Beginner yoga class holding plank position at Evolvere Lane Cove

Yoga Fundamentals

A supportive, beginner-friendly class to help you build confidence, strength and understanding in your yoga practice.

Is this for you?

Whether you're completely new to yoga, returning after time away or transitioning from postnatal classes back into regular movement, Yoga Fundamentals is the perfect place to begin.

Designed to build confidence through mindful movement, breath and alignment, this slower-paced class gives you the time and guidance to truly understand the foundations of yoga.

This class is ideal if you:

• are new to yoga and want to learn the basics with clear guidance

• are returning after a break and looking for a gentler way back into movement

• prefer a slower, more supportive class where poses and transitions are explained

• want to feel more confident before progressing into Yoga Flow

No experience is needed. Your teacher will guide you through each pose with clear instruction and optional adjustments to help support your alignment and movement.

What to expect

Arrive a few minutes early and your teacher will help you get settled with a mat and any props needed for class.

Yoga Fundamentals moves at a pace that allows you to truly understand what you're doing. You'll explore foundational yoga poses with clear guidance, alignment support and space to move mindfully without feeling rushed.

Classes also include breath awareness, gentle strength and mobility work, with elements of relaxation and meditation woven throughout the broader practice and philosophy of the class.

Many students find the confidence they build here carries into everything else. Some progress into Yoga Flow, while others continue returning to Fundamentals because they love the slower, more supportive pace.

What our members say

Amazing studio and teachers! I started with the beginners course, which I highly recommend if you're new to yoga like I was, and now I'm loving the Monday & Wednesday morning classes. The studio space is gorgeous and the studio culture is warm and friendly.

Holly Mini

I'm not your typical candidate for a yoga student. I experienced my first yoga class at Evolvere and the teacher Tatiana was patient, kind and very easy to understand. To my surprise it was amazing, there was no judgement, I didn't feel out of place, felt encouraged to learn and at the end it was one of the most satisfying, strenuous and fulfilling workouts I've ever done.

Jai Garbyal

I'm a tall skinny guy with tight hamstrings and calf muscles. I've done two beginners yoga courses with Tatiana and they have helped me gain flexibility and strength. It is a very inclusive studio, the classes cater for a wide range of abilities. Tatiana is a very good teacher, she gives great individual feedback.

FAQ

Common questions

Absolutely. Yoga Fundamentals is designed specifically for beginners. Your teacher will guide you through each pose step by step, with clear explanations and plenty of support along the way.

Yes. Flexibility isn't something you need before starting yoga, it's something that develops with practice over time. Every pose can be modified to suit where your body is right now.

A yoga mat (mats available to hire for $2), a water bottle and comfortable clothing you can move in. Filtered water is available at the studio. You can also visit our new students page for everything you need to know before your first class.

Please reach out before your first class so we can discuss what's going on. In many cases, movements can be modified to safely support your body.

Our smaller class sizes allow teachers to provide individual guidance, alignment support and optional hands-on adjustments where appropriate.

There is limited street parking available on Austin Street. The Lane Cove Market Square car park across the road offers 2 hours free parking, and The Canopy car park is only a short walk away.

Whenever you feel ready. Some students transition after a few weeks, while others continue attending Fundamentals because they enjoy the slower pace and additional guidance. Your teacher can help you decide when the time feels right.

That's completely normal, especially if it's your first yoga class. Our studio is designed to feel welcoming and supportive, and many students begin exactly where you are now.
