Barre

An energising full body class blending Pilates, ballet and low impact cardio. You don't need to be a dancer to enjoy Barre. Expect shaking legs, good music and a little burn.

Is this for you?

Barre blends small, controlled movements inspired by Pilates and ballet with low impact cardio. You'll move between the barre, the mat and standing sequences, using repetition, control and your own body weight to build strength and endurance. No dance background needed.

This class is for you if:

• You want a full body workout that feels energising and uplifting

• You enjoy moving to music and finding a rhythm

• You want to build strength, stability and muscular endurance

• You like low impact workouts that still offer a challenge

Barre is also marked as postnatal-safe on the timetable, with exercises selected to support strength building without placing unnecessary pressure on the abdominal wall or pelvic floor.

Suitable for all levels, with modifications offered throughout class so you can work at the level that feels right for your body.

What to expect

Arrive a few minutes early and your teacher will say hello, check in about any injuries or concerns, and help you get set up with a mat and grip socks if needed.

Classes run for about an hour and are set to music. You'll begin with a warm up before moving through a series of sections including legs and glutes at the barre, upper body strengthening, core work on the mat and short bursts of low impact cardio.

The movements are small, controlled and highly repetitive, which is exactly where the signature Barre "burn" comes from.

No dance experience or coordination is needed. Your teacher will guide you through each movement and offer alignment support throughout class.

Classes finish with stretching to help release tension and lengthen the body after all the hard work.

Over time, most people notice stronger legs and glutes, improved posture and better overall endurance. And there's something about moving to good music in a small group that tends to leave people walking out feeling lighter and in a better mood.

I predominantly do barre classes here but also yoga and both are great. There's a real sense of community, the classes are challenging but really enjoyable and I always, always leave feeling better than when I arrived!

I love Tatiana's Barre classes!! Definitely the best I've ever been to. They are really high energy, a great work out and lots of fun also.

The barre classes are fun and energising, Pilates is playful and challenging, and yoga my absolute favourite where I walk out feeling a completely different (and better!) person. The space is so calming and welcoming, and Tatiana always provides corrections and personalised advice.

FAQ

Common questions

Not at all. Barre is inspired by ballet, but you don't need any dance background or coordination to enjoy the class. The movements are simple, your teacher will guide you through everything and you'll pick things up quickly as you go.

If it's your first time at the studio, our New Students page covers everything you need to know before your first class.

Grip socks and a mat are compulsory for all Barre classes. You're welcome to bring your own grip socks or purchase a pair at the studio for $20.

We also recommend bringing a towel and water bottle.

Please reach out before your first class so we can guide you with the right options and modifications. Most injuries can be worked around safely.

Our classes are kept small so your teacher can see everyone in the room and offer individual guidance. That's the whole point of boutique.

There's limited street parking on Austin Street. The Lane Cove Market Square car park across the road offers 2 hours free, and the Lane Cove Canopy car park is a 4-minute walk away.

Same energy and format, but Mums & Bubs Barre is designed for postnatal recovery with your baby beside you. If you're postnatal and want to bring bub, that's the one. If you want a full-intensity session without baby logistics, this class is for you.
