Navigating Pregnancy with Yoga and Pilates
Pregnancy is a time of incredible change — physically, emotionally and mentally. Your body is doing something extraordinary, and the right movement practice can make a real difference in how you feel through each stage.
At Evolvere, we see women every week who discover that yoga and pilates become some of the most valuable tools in their pregnancy journey — not just for staying active, but for feeling strong, supported and connected to their changing body.
Why movement matters during pregnancy
Staying active during pregnancy isn't about maintaining fitness or pushing through. It's about supporting your body as it changes — easing discomfort, building strength where it matters most, and preparing yourself physically and mentally for birth.
The right kind of movement can help with lower back and pelvic pain, maintaining strength and mobility, improving sleep and energy levels, reducing stress and anxiety, and building confidence as your body changes.
Yoga during pregnancy
Pregnancy yoga is designed to work with your body, not against it. Through breath, gentle strength work and supported poses, you'll learn to tune in, slow down and move with awareness.
Each class focuses on building strength to support your changing body, safe stretching to ease tension in the hips, back and shoulders, breath awareness and connection, and relaxation techniques that carry into labour and birth.
It's also a powerful way to prepare your body for birth. The positions, breathing techniques and body awareness you develop in pregnancy yoga directly support you during labour — especially if you're planning a vaginal birth.
Pilates during pregnancy
Pregnancy pilates takes a different approach — focusing on deep core and pelvic floor support, posture alignment, and controlled, low-impact strengthening.
As your body changes, your centre of gravity shifts and your muscles work differently. Pilates helps you maintain stability, reduce strain on your back and pelvis, and build the kind of functional strength that supports both pregnancy and recovery after birth.
The pelvic floor and deep core work you do in pregnancy pilates doesn't just help during pregnancy — it directly supports your postnatal recovery, helping you feel more supported and heal with greater ease.
Which one is right for you?
Both practices offer incredible benefits, and many women find that combining yoga and pilates gives them the best of both worlds — the strength and stability of pilates with the flexibility, breath work and mental calm of yoga.
If you're not sure where to start, here's a simple guide:
Start with Pregnancy Yoga if you want to focus on breath, flexibility and relaxation, you're looking for a more flowing, meditative practice, or you want specific preparation for labour and birth.
Start with Pregnancy Pilates if you want to focus on core strength and pelvic floor support, you're experiencing back or pelvic discomfort, or you prefer structured, technique-focused movement.
Try both if you want a complete approach to pregnancy movement — many of our clients attend both each week and love the balance.
When to start
Both pregnancy yoga and pregnancy pilates at Evolvere are suitable from early pregnancy onwards, with options and modifications provided throughout. There's no need to wait for a specific trimester — the earlier you start, the more you'll benefit.
Beyond classes
Movement is just one part of the picture. At Evolvere, we also offer birth preparation workshops, doula support, postnatal recovery classes and feeding guidance — creating a continuous journey of support from pregnancy through to those early weeks with your baby.
If you have any questions about which class is right for you, or if you'd like guidance based on where you are in your pregnancy, reach out — we're always happy to help.
